New hero love

I have been unfaithful.
Get your coat Jack, i've moved on and fallen in love with my new hero. *swoon*.

I'm glad actually, as I wasn't sure how to detach myself from my first couple, but in actual fact it isn't that hard once you get teeth into two brand new characters is it?
I took a week or two writing break after pressing send on my full submission, and am now getting back in the saddle again with two completely different characters. We are still very much at the getting to know each other stage, and i'm looking forward to putting them through their paces over the next few weeks.
Brace yourselves Connor & Annie, i'm coming to get you!

I've just hit the one month mark since subbing my full, and I have to confess to finding the wait slightly...er, totally agonising.
I know a month is nothing in relative terms.
I know a month is a drop in the ocean.
I know I have to just keep on keeping on.
No news is good news I guess, and on the bright side, at least I haven't had bad news.

Self indulgent grumble over. :o)

  1. Hey, Joanne, have a chocolate martini to help with the waiting. And bury the pain of NTAI with yout two new characters. I love a new story to get stuck into when the waiting starts to drag. We shall not speak of how long my current sub has been at the partial stage. ;-)

  2. Hi,

Good for you, love'em and leave'em. Tomorrow's another day, another new world unfolding, and you'll soon be lost in the wonder of first look, first touch, first kiss!

Yeah, crank up your stilettos and pummel that keyboard!

  3. Hi Joanne,

I'm done lurking and have decided to actually post a comment today! The way I see it with subbing and the agonising wait while you count away the weeks is by telling myself that surely the editors get the weekends off so that would mean your four weeks has really only been 20 days. I don't know if that will make you feel worse, and if it does I apologise profusely, but I think it's a good way of looking at it. It works for me and working on a different story is definitely the right road to take. Your first chapter was fantastic, so polished and professional that I'm sure the rest of the story is equally impressive.

All the best as you ignore everyone's advice and still lean towards TAI when really you should be NTAI!!!!

  4. Hi Francine,
Love 'em and leave 'em - I like it. You're right, that first kiss and first touch is magical to write and is def preferable to compulsively checking my emails! Cheers xx

    Aideen, hello!
It's great to see you, thanks for posting.
You know, that IS a much better way to think of it. It certainly sounds like less when you say it like that doesn't it?
And thank you for saying nice things about my chapter - it's a real morale boost. I've reached the point of feeling convinced that my full sub is way off the mark, so your words are much appreciated.
Well done with the seven sassy sisters btw! I love it.
I'm going to try to take everyone's advice and NTAI. Im going to try REALLY hard. ;o)

  5. Good for you, writing something else and loving your new characters. I'm trying to do that...but not quite there yet. Never mind, have about 40 books on the TBR pile so I can distract myself meantime!

  6. Jackie - I don't know quite what happened there, i'm sure I typed a reply to you before Francine's post...but then I was drinking that very welcome chocolate martini at the time. *hiccup*
Yeah, burying your head in something new is the only way isn't it. Lots of luck with your own impending news, fingers crossed it's speedy and good. x

    Hiya Susan,
wow, that is some TBR pile! Def a good way to keep your mind on other things. And you have the conference to look forward to, good luck with your Ed.

  7. Hi,

Hee hee, noticed your comment (ID-ing home area)on Jane's blog.

BTW as an aside, Live Traffic Feed can be gotten round by utilising ID mask! (?) I've never been to Halesowen in my life and my IP server isn't there either!! So for anyone using LTF I can tell you it doesn't know where you are if you know how to evade it. Same can't be said for ruddy Google Earth, but ha ha one camera only shows the main gateway! As for the aerial shots - confusing jumble of trees and fields, the house set within woodland! But hey, just think how Google Earth could feature in a novel, giving a slightly creepy sense of obsessive desire airing stalker!

  8. That's all way too James Bond for me Francine. :o)

I like the traffic feed map, it fascinates me to think people from the flip side of the world might have visited my blog, either by accident or intention. The worlds suddenly a smaller place isn't it?

  9. Hi,

Re world smaller place: absolutely, and I'm continually amazed by how people come across blogs (postees), though saying that I do on occasion just keep pressing "next blog feature" to see who/where and what they're blogging about! :o)

Also blogfests are a fab way of making new writing friends, who can prove invaluable re research purposes if one chooses to set a novel in location one has never been to.

Hence I'm having a day of writing to read through excerpts in a blogfest, and general blogging day.

  10. The trouble with waiting is why I used to enjoy collecting the various jewels at sub care. I believe you get a garnet for one month.

It takes awhile and the editors have had a busy busy month.

  11. What's a blogfest Francine?

A garnet you say Michelle? I love shinies! Is this to decorate my silver bucket? I like the idea of earning jewels, makes the waiting a little more bearable.
I know they must be super busy, and I think the lady i've subbed to has maybe changed jobs too from what I gather around the forums. Plus it's holiday times too isn't it, so it's early days for me yet.
You'll have to let us in on the whole jewels system, it sounds fun!

  12. Hi,

    Blogfests!

One joins with others to post small excerpts of past/ongoing/first rubbish works etc., appropriate to blogfest title = every one reads every one else' work. It's fun, you can see how they work by taking a look at my blog!

  13. Hi Joanne

I too have just hit the one month mark, waiting sucks huh? Guess we all get there sooner or later, but a new idea is just the ticket to NTAI or at least LESS NTAI...

  14. Sounds fun Francine!

Hi Janette, it sure does drag doesn't it. I checked over on your blog a few days back to see if how you were doing actually as I knew you were close to subbing at around the same time as me, so it's extra nice that you've popped by.
You've just earned a garnet for your silver bucket too!
